It Doesn't Last Long
The lilac
sits on my desk like a blessing
Like romance
Where everything is a little bit brighter
And there’s a spring in the step
Gorgeous and wonderful
Perfuming everything
But it’s just for a day
Now withered
It’s smell lingers and it won’t last too long
My first Buddhist teacher, Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, once said,
“Things can always get worse.”
I try to live this one precious life so fully
I burst like the lilac into being
And perfume the world with life unfolding
Knowing it doesn’t last long
